The protocol decides it, not the model.

Modbus and M-Bus are open protocols and the Rhino access point speaks both. A meter using either one connects, whether or not we have configured that exact model before. So the useful question is rarely which meter you have.

Meter compatibility, answered.

No. What you see here is what Rhino has already configured, not the limit of what Rhino can read. If your meter speaks Modbus (RTU or TCP) or M-Bus (wired or Wireless M-Bus OMS), the Rhino access point reads it whether or not we have set that model up before. The real difference is commissioning work, not capability: on a meter we have done before the register map is already known, and on a new one it gets confirmed during onboarding. That is a scheduling question, not a compatibility question. Tell us the make, the model and the interface at sales@rhino.energy and we will name the exact device you need.
Almost never. Rhino connects to the meters already in the building, which is the reason a rollout does not need a capital budget for meter replacement. A small expansion device reads the meter's existing output (pulse, RS485, RS232, or wireless M-Bus) and sends it to one access point per building. Meters get replaced only when they have no readable output at all, which is rare on anything installed in the last fifteen years, or when a landlord needs MID certification for billing and the current meter does not have it.
It describes how an electricity meter sees the current, and it decides how much work the install is. A direct meter carries the full load through itself, so there is nothing extra to install. A semi-indirect or indirect meter reads through current transformers, which are separate components clamped around the cable. If those transformers are already in place, connecting the meter is the same job as any other. If they are not, an electrician has to install them, which usually means a planned outage on that circuit. The checker flags this on every result, because it is the single biggest swing in what a connection costs.
Only if you bill on the readings. MID certification is a European conformity mark that makes a meter's readings legally usable for charging money, so it matters for tenant sub-billing and service charge reconciliation. For monitoring, cost analysis, anomaly detection and ESG reporting, a meter without MID is fine and Rhino reads it the same way. The checker shows MID status on every meter it knows, so you can see straight away which meters in a building could carry a tenant invoice and which are for insight only.
Sometimes, and it is worth checking before you plan an install. Where a smart meter is already fitted and the grid operator exposes the data, Rhino connects in software through a utility connector and nothing goes on site. The same applies where a BMS or an existing submetering system is already reading the building and can hand the data over. Hardware is for the meters those two routes cannot reach, which in most portfolios is the submeters. A typical building ends up with a mix, and the checker covers the hardware half of that picture.
