All utilities.
One platform.
Westfield connected 4 large European shopping centres to Rhino via Socomec hardware, linking 640 meters across energy, water, heating, and cooling. Common-area allocation, tenant billing, and zero-emissions reporting are now handled from a single dashboard delivering 60,000 data points a day.
Complex buildings.
No visibility.
Large retail centres are among the most utility-intensive buildings in commercial real estate. Westfield was operating without the tools to understand where consumption was going, let alone reduce it.
No common-area visibility
There were no tools to accurately determine utility consumption attributable to shared building systems versus individual tenant spaces. Allocation was guesswork.
No baseline for optimization
Without the ability to compare individual building systems against each other or against historical norms, identifying inefficiencies and setting realistic reduction targets was impossible.
No path to zero emissions
Reporting and tracking progress towards zero emissions requires granular, continuous data. Westfield lacked the infrastructure to measure what they needed to manage.
From guesswork
to granular data.
Rhino connected all 640 meters across Westfield's four European stores via Socomec hardware, bringing electricity, water, heating, and cooling into one platform. Three outcomes followed immediately.
Benchmarking across sites and systems
Rhino's structure visualization maps consumption at every level: store, floor, system, and zone. Westfield can now compare sites against each other and track how individual building systems perform over time, establishing data-driven baselines for every utility.
Consumption allocation between tenants and common areas
Submeter data is automatically attributed to tenant spaces versus shared infrastructure. Utility costs are split accurately and transparently, eliminating the estimation and reconciliation that had previously consumed significant management time each billing cycle.
API data delivery to central systems
Consumption data flows directly to Westfield's internal data infrastructure via the Rhino API. ESG reporting, zero-emissions tracking, and portfolio-level dashboards all run on live, verified meter data rather than estimated or manually compiled figures.
60,000 data points.
Every day.
Four stores. All utilities. One platform. The numbers below reflect what continuous, structured meter data makes possible at scale.
Built on Socomec hardware.
The Westfield deployment ran on Socomec's DIRIS Digiware metering system. Rhino connects natively to Socomec infrastructure, making it straightforward to bring an existing Digiware estate into the platform without additional hardware or site visits.
